The Jordan 6 Black/White Infrareds were first released in 1991. This year was filled with accolades and highlights for Michael as he took home the scoring title, received All-Defensive team honors and the MVP award. He was sporting the black colorway primarily throughout the playoffs. Michael and the Bulls won their first championship that summer, beating the mighty LA Lakers in 5 games.
Interestingly, the Jordan 6 was the last pair of his signature line to have Nike branding on the exterior of the shoe. The goal was to begin marketing Air Jordan as a separate entity from the rest of Nike’s basketball line. This decision was crucial in building the Jordan Brand we know today.
