Rei is a Japanese fashion designer based in Tokyo and Paris and the founder of two major popular fashion houses being Comme Des Garçon and Dover Street Market.
Rei’s unsettling vision on early fashion has had a surprisingly profound impact in the culture for which we may not even be aware exists today. Black dress, black shirt, black shoes, black everything. These are all which Rei feels most like herself and in many ways, has transitioned what used to be known as goth punk clothes, to now modern norm colour pallets. This has especially had impact on female fashion culture in a time where much garments were bright, sparkly, and formed fitting to the body. Her personal style can be seen as a bland, dark approach on high fashion but has also carved a way the female fashion culture on the dark punk aesthetic.
