In today’s edition of “Reviews on the Low,” we explore another highly anticipated sneaker release of 2020; the Air Jordan 6 Retro “Defining Moments.” This Jordan release has been delayed several times in the last few months, spanning back all the way to the NBA All-Star Weekend in February. However, it’s set release date has officially been moved to April 18th at last.
This sneaker is more often referred to as the “DMP’s,” due in part to the original Defining Moments collection being released as a pack in 2006, which also included a black/white/gold Air Jordan 11. However, since the 2020 release is a standalone sneaker, Jordan has been listing them strictly as the Air Jordan 6 Retro “Defining Moments.” It has been 14 long years since this sleek black and gold sneaker hit the scene and many have wondered if this new age retro will be able to stand true to it’s OG form.. Will this sneaker be worth the wait?
Now for a dive into the product itself; the 2020 Air Jordan 6 Retro “Defining Moments,” is encased in a very sleek two-tone gold and black box- which is far more decorated than the norm put out by Jordan Brand. It is a grand first impression, and really goes the extra mile in maintaining the gold standard that the defining moments collection was initially put out to commemorate. In fact, this sneaker is gifted with a gold dog tag which hangs on the left shoe which states “Air Jordan 6 June 12th, 1991. Defining Moment, MJ’s first professional championship.” The sneaker is dressed in an all black Durabuck upper (which is a variation of synthetic nubuck),with a sleek black midsole with hints of gold- edging the translucent peaks which emerge from the blue tinted translucent outsole. The all black laces are covered with an all black satin material decorated with a gold jumpman, with a black and gold lacelock keeping them in place. The gold accents found throughout the sneaker transform this clean, yet subtle retro 6 into a defining piece of your day to day outfits.
Various future sneaker releases in the upcoming months are expected to be postponed, so if you’re fiending for a fresh pair of kicks this is definitely a release you will not want to miss. Although this sneaker in particular is not far from many other retro 6’s, I fully anticipate the Air Jordan 6 Retro “Defining Moments,” to sell out. The nostalgia factor will definitely come into play, but you honestly cannot go wrong with a sleek black and gold sneaker.
